I have been thinking about buying a suitcase style generator. I have seen various opinion of Honda and Kibor, but I have found a 2KW Hyundai model for £499 with Seamark Nunn. After a phone call with them, they sung the praises, I am firming up towards this a serious option.

Has anyone an opinion on the Hyundai generators?

Thanks.

I don't know the generators, but its hard to find any product with the hyundai name on it that is other than excellent these days, and their back up is pretty good in other areas, so i don't see why not.

I haven't looked at this model, but I am aware its possible to licence this brand name. Have a look at similar models by names like Clarke or Sealey and one or two more common generator brands. You will probably find they are all the same machine from China. That doesnt mean its no good though. Just a lot cheaper than a Honda 20i.

Its pretty easy to but alternators, engines, frames etc to build bigger 'open' frame models, but 'suitcase' machines require a volume builder. Guess where that is nowadays!

58db "with no load"

...will be far noisier when your battery charger kicks in.

this IS one of the Chinese products which came into the country a few years ago. If the earlier ones are anything to go by then when it gets going it will produce not the gentle humm of a Honda but a quite aggressive "bark" like a yamaha motor bike going by in the street, who's engine it copies, only the motorbike comes up to you and goes away. THIS stays next to you (& your neighbours) for hours! I've had both and I know the difference. Put a Honda in the dinghy tied up to the end of the boat away from the quay and nobody will know that it's running. The same cannot be said for these beasties!

Don't forget, some people object to the quiet pluttering of a fully installed generator.

Hello,

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to a website, but take a look at Tools and Power Tools

Sell a wide range of suitcase inverter generators from brands including Hyundai, Honda, Kipor, Stephill and Evopower.

In my experience, I have found the Hyundai inverters to be among the best available. In relation to pricing, they are around 40-50% cheaper to the Honda equivalents. As somebody has already mentioned, they are slightly louder than the Honda's, but I emphasis the 'slightly'. Still very easy to hold a conversation over. Although, a little louder the Hyundai suitcase generators make up in other ways. They are generally a little bit more powerful and come with electric start options, making them a lot easier to use.

Hope I have been some help, if you need any more info let me know :)
