Hypalon fenders

What's to know about them?

Mostly that they're implausibly expensive :)

I considered them for Kindred Spirit, as there was only room in the locker for four small conventional fenders and I wanted to have more for situations more varied than a nice neat marina pontoon. Couldn't stomach the hundreds of pounds it was going to cost, though. I ended up buying a dinghy roller (the sort of thing Frank Dye would use to haul a Wayfarer up a beach) and making a fabric cover to sling it alongside.

Problems started before purchase - the quote. I stopped at that point in my tracks.

We have four of the Avon hypalon type and four normal fenders. I don't like fenders stored on deck as they look awful so we store four normal fenders in the locker and four deflated Avon fenders in there as well. We use the normal fenders on pontoon side and the hypalon again other boats so as not to damage them. Works for us on the very rare occasion we are in a marina.

Oldbilbo - if you do decide to get some of these, please give me a shout. I sold boat 18 months ago, but kept my Avon hypalon inflatable fenders. Think they only got used once and then that was only a couple of them. A replacement boat is looking a like a distant dream for me, so I will be selling them.

Make your own - buy all the bits from Henshaws. The total cost of the bits amounts to about a quarter of the price of the completed fenders. It's pretty easy to work with hypalon.
