Hydrovane price on ebay

Thanks for that I missed the end of the auction, I bought one in jan and wanted to see how the price I paid compared. I paid £1750 and another one sold for £1950 and this one £2250, wow however best thing I have bought for a while great fun sail with brings a completely new aspect to sailing.

PS wow I got that wrong it was £2550 .

One feature of eBay is that you can search 'completed' listings.

e.g. search for the word 'hydrovane'... then when the results are shown, look down the left hand side filters and underneath Condition, Price, Seller and Buying Formats you should see a 'Completed listings' tick box. Tick it, et voila!

I did that but for some reason it came up with a not found message I had it on my watch list as well but that had been removed.
Anyway as usual the PBO forum came up with an answer within minutes. Amazing the prices the Hydrovane are Making, having said that they are great to use.
Thanks
Mike

Phew. For that money you can get a really good proper electronic system and a decent battery and a digi regulator. :)

Not much good if you want to sail long distances and need to keep charging your batteries. My Hydrovane is certainly the best piece of kit bought. Give me an extra pair of hands on almost all points of sail, once you are used to fine tuning it. :)

Agree. On the price front bear in mind Hydrovanes come in different sizes, subject to boat weight, so price variations on second hand versions are to be expected.

You will do anyway - how else do you power the fridge and nav lights and water pump. And if your boat has a nice trim stern ( as mine has) do you really want to hang all that ironmongery off it?

Looks alright to me:

Of course, you only need a Hydrovane if you do serious offshore sailing.

As I said they come in different sizes subject to boat weight. So in buying on ebay check it is the right size for your boat. As rule of thumb the cheaper it is on ebay compared to others then the smaller it is. To give an example how different in size they are we helped a 32 foot lightweight boat set up a Hydrovane. It was half the size rudder and sail compared to ours, our boat is a heavy displacement boat. I got the set up wrong first time, I set the rudder to the maximum deflection setting (No1 hole) which we use and the vane was oversteering. I set it to the no3 hole, the least deflection, and it worked very well.
