hydrophone

hi,
I am always after whales.
On my upcoming engineless cruise on the outer edge of the Humboldt current
and around the Galapagos
I want to use my brandnew basic hydrophone
to help me locate
sperm whales.

Are any of you experienced in the use of this piece of gear,
in general,
and specifically with marine mammals ?

I appreciate any info!

I also sail the English Channel !!!!!!!!!!!! And would love to get my hands on a hydrophone how much and were would I get one from.
As an x sound engineer, I can help guide u were 2 and what 2 plug it in to.
