Hydronic not as hot as usual?

I have Eber Hydronic on the boat and on the last visit it didn't seem to cope as well as usual. Mind you it was a very cold day. Is there any routine thing I need to do to ensure it keeps batting away at full efficiency. It is about 5yrs old lightly used and apart from this seems perfect.

Just a thought - going full blast an Eber can only heat incoming air by x degrees.

If outside air lately has been dead cold lately at y degrees, then Eber will raise it to y+x degrees.

When outside air is warmer at z degrees (more normal for a UK winter), Eber will rise it to z+x degrees.

If the difference between y+x and z+x is enough to cross the threshold between toasty and chilly, then the Eber might be blamed, even though outside air temp is the real culprit. Not saying that's what is happening on your case, but maybe?

I reckon you are right. the noticeable difference in heating just made me wonder if there are some routine things I should be doing at this "maintenance" time of year

This would not apply to the Hydronic version as it is heating water for radiators? - you would need to check the temperature of the water in the radiators - there are two settings (controlled by the heater, not adjustable) for these units but I can't remember what they are - it may be stuck on the low setting.
If this is not the case it may just have been the heat loss of the boat was too high for the radiators to keep up with.

...but Hydronic heats water not air!

User has no control over water temp, unit regulates itself to keep water between cetrain temps. When water temp drops it starts (or speeds up) and when temp exceeds a figure, it slows down (or stops). The cycle-time for this depends on how quickly the hear is dissipated (through rads, fan matrices etc), and this is affected by ambient air temp around rads.

Maintenance is nomore than "de-coking". It will fail to start when it needs cleaning! Normal first culprit is the glow pin screen (metal gauze) that gets clogged with carbon deposits and blocks fuel supply.

Same argument applies. Eber can only input so much heat to water, heat determined by outside air temp plus x. If it can't generate enough heat to raise water temp to normal, then boat will feel chilly, esp as inside boat temp will be starting at a very low value.

I've had the same problem heating my conservatory lately, with a recently serviced domestic CH system.

Put an adjustable opening in internal air intake pipe. You can then recirc warm air to raise internal temp,
Did it on my D1L and it works fine.

But as has been pointed out, the Hydronic heats water, not air /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If the pipe runs aren't well-insulated it could be that not enough heat is getting to the rads/heating matrices.

i have a hydronic d4wsc and fitted a silencer in the combustion air intake, this made it much quieter plus the blub that came with said it makes it heat quicker.
For eberwebasto on ebay
