Hey there all. I did search, but didn't find what I needed so here goes.

I have a hydraulic steering system that has suffered from leaky compression fittings.

The pipework is all 3/8 inch copper pipe. I see from the bes.co.uk that there are two types of copper pipe available - refrigeration or other. The 'other' has a .7mm wall, the refrigeration has a 21SWG (which I think is .81mm).

The BES site offers parallel olives for its 3/8" compression fittings as this is the recommendation for Calor Gas. On amazon I can get brass stepped olives.

Questions:

Which pipe should I be using for the hydraulic steering system?

Which olives are best for the hydraulic steering system?

Any other info on hydraulic steering gratefully received

No replies sop far so I will kick off...
Using solid copper pipework is, in my experience so far, pretty unusual. I would think the constant movement you can expect would result in work-hardening of the copper which is, possibly, why you have a problem at the junctions.
Certainly my hydraulics, a mix of Vetus and US made components, use flexible plastic pipes and standard unions. They can be made up cheaply by any local hydraulics shop.

I fitted a autopilot pump to mine, vetus pipes and had no end of problem with the compression fitting. In the end brought a complete set of pipes with ends fitted for around £80 from a local hydraulics shop. Job done with no further problems.
Dont go for marine.
