Can anybody advise what oil is the right stuff to use in a hydraulic drive. So far advise has been somewhat contradictory.

Some say normal hydraulic oil, others say auto gearbox oil, other power steering fluid......Basically the advise follows whatever the shop happens to sell.

Anybody out there have a definitive answer.

Cheers

Hydraulic oil is hydraulic oil,so use what you should use ,its all about the high pressure requirements .
If the equipment manufacturer states use a certain oil then that's what you should use
Dont be fobbed off with the wrong stuff.
Places like Partco or even farm machinery service agents should stock it.
I see your in berkshire so proberly not to far from slough ,tunes engineering on the trading estate should have it
