Hi guys/gals,

After having an engine rebuild done a few years ago and only now trying to start the engine (Perky 4236), the hydraulic gearbox is stuck in gear even though the level is in neutral and there is plenty of oil. I've taken the top of the gbox off to see if there are any blockages but all looks Ok.

Any suggestions short of removing the gbox as it's a pretty tight fit..

Thanks,
Mark

Edit:
Forget all below.

Just read the 150 manual - completely different to my 160/260
Sorry.

I'll leave the post just in case it helps a 160/260 owner. The PRM150 manual might be of help anyway.

It could be that the patent PRM 'get you home device' has come into play.

Effectively, it's a narrowish geared-toothed shim that slides out and locks the gears up when you remove the top plate that secures it in position when the gearbox is running normally.

It did happen to me & caused me much consternation until I talked to Mike Bellamy at Lancing Marine who put me wise to the reason why my gearbox was suddenly locked solid.

If it is that, you'll have to try and hook the shim and put it back to where it should be in normal operation. It's fiddly, requiring a fine piece of stiff hooked wire - plus the gear-tooth shim can be quite hard to spot.

I removed and stripped the gearbox (Its a 160 rather than 150) and found that the clutch cylinder has stuck inside it's housing after being sat for years. After cleaning and lubricating it freed the piston up.

Getting the gearbox back into the boat with limited space was another problem :-(

You said you are TRYING to start the engine. Have you successfully started it?
