I have an extended business trip to Hyderabad (India) coming up. Has anyone been there? Any ideas for weekend excursions (train, plane or car)?

Pete

P.S. Don't try telling me it's "dry" cos I know there are places where you can get a beer!

Having worked there last year on the east coast and back in 1988 on the west coast I would ask who you have upset to be sent there!!!!
I did say after we left last time that if we got a contract to work there again I was going to retire earlier.

I know what you mean.

Upside is
1) It's hot (30 degress)
2) We do get to stay here The Taj
3) We have a chauffeur,
4) We go on decent flights,
5) Drink loads of Kingfisher,
6) Have curry for 3 meals a day.

Downside is
1) We have to do some work.
2) Less time dossing around on the internet.
3) I do normally spend most of my time on the bog.

Right, armed with March MBY, 80 DVD's and a load of Diacalm/Cyproxin I'm off on my 1 month Curry fest to teach a load of people how to do my job.

There are some lakes near to the hotel that offer "speed boat hire" so maybe I'll be reporting back on boating in India.

Wish me luck!

Well by now you should be in the land of people defecating where ever the hell they feel like!!!!
If I find out its first direct you have gone for then all my accounts will leave there forethwith.
I still think you have really p***ed sombody off to have to go there. I also feel that no comapny in the world could pay me enough to go back there.

I guess you are not interest in history then, or weren't fortunate enough to have met local employees who would have loved to show you around. I travelled in India extensively for a job some years back, and while places like Delhi and Hyderabad were an education for a western person, their culture and history is amazing, and in many ways in advance of what we had in Europe several hundred years ago, and that evidence is still there.

If you are looking for western nightlife and modern looking cities, wrong place to go. If you have an interest in culture and history, then it's an amazing place to visit

For interest sake I have travelled and worked extensively since 1963. Far East , Mid East, Africa and South America.

I do not look for " English Breakfast's and Larger signs" - but to be perfectly honest do enjoy a bacon buttie after a spell in a muslim country!!

I have just finished working, again, in West Malaysia and have enjoyed emensely seeing a clean far east country again. Putting it bluntly I do not see why on the Indian sub continent they need to CRAP in a monsoon drain ( in the dry season ) outside a 5 star hotel, or on the tracks of a major railway station.

Culture - possibly - Class - negative.

There's nowhere else like India. I'm sat in my hotel room now (wireless internet) and outside my window there's a road with constant traffic and horn beeping. This morning I saw some poor child squatting by the road then two separate fist-fights following accidents. Our office is in "hitech city" where I sit at my desk and watch women in Sari's smashing up rocks. Weather is great and food is fab (as long as you like curry!) I'll try and post some pics at the weekend.

What did you do today?

Still, it's not all great, my mate skived off this morning and was glued to the crapper! Then he got charged £10 for a G&T!

OK I will agree with that - but for a verrrrrrrry different reason.

On the G&T front. We were on the east coast in Visak and asked for a G&T. Barman says " plenty gin sahib but no tonic in Visak ".

What more can one say apart from thank god we moved somewhere civilised.
