ours is slightly loose - about 1mm of lateral play. and slight weep when was out water last winter. so she's coming out the water in a week to fix it. under the cockpit sole, aft of stern gland is all glass, so will have to go digging with angle grinder probably. tho at the moment its all covered by fuel tank.

anyone know if it is bolted in or glassed in? hopefully bolted, but to what? an old wet bit of wood, or s/s etc?

she was made in 1971 by tyler's.

will change p bracket bearing while she's out. think main problem will be keeping whole area dry inside hull for new epoxy etc i think. large tarp and channel the condensation etc around area with polysulphide sealant "walls" not sure how well that will work.

will post pics once i've done it. hope to get her back in water a week later, we'll see... :)

thanks

I also replaced mine after it cracked ,possibly after de-zincification.
It looked ver similar to Vyv's and after the old one was cut out we made a three sided marine. plywood box shaped to fit the hull so that the open side could be bonded to a cross-member. We offered up the p-bracket through the slot in the hull and bolted threaded stub through the holes and, with a lash up of wood and string , re-inserted the prop-shaft and brought the whole issue carefully into alignment.
We started slowly but gradually built up a massive block of glassfibre which was bonded both to the hull and a crossmember.
I wouldn't like to be the person who replaces the next one!!

thanks for your replies.

of course you can have my pics. and of the ?dezincified prop when its off too (i've not forgotten, but she's not been out the water since)

p bracket is s/s. will be interesting to see what its bolted to, and the state of the bolts and nuts :)

have wondered about an A bracket, tho the hull is quite v shaped at the p bracket, so uncertain about that, will maybe go for it when its all in pieces. think/hope grp will be pretty thick there in such an old boat.

am also keen to chisel rather than grind to minimise dust,

will keep you posted, cheers.

well after all that, the P bracket seems very solid to the hull. the only movement is the entire stern waving about as i tugged it :)

looking under fuel tank, there is a small bulkhead behind which the p bracket is attached. did not look any further/remove fuel tank etc. had a beer instead.

so prop sorted and back on the shaft (the keyway was a smaller width than the one in the shaft, probably contributed to the key failing earlier this year, and some underwater fun)

thanks for your replies
