My Hurth 1502r gearbox appears to be failing. It will not go into forward, however, reverse is fine. It’s definitely not the lever. All the googling I’ve done suggests it’s the thrust bearings and a rebuild is required.

Could somebody recommend firms around the Cambridgeshire area to do this?

Ta!

Make sure to get a quote, not an estimated cost. A few years ago our Hurth packed up a few days before summer cruise. Cost of rebuild, thrust washer and clutch packs + labour was more than the cost of a new box but, no stock anywhere so I was stuck with it.

Lacing Marine appear to stock the ZF15M (the new model of this box) for £1,200. There's a few on ebay from the US for about £1,000 but of course I'll get customs fees on top of that.

Hopefully a rebuild will be less than that?

A third option has surfaced. A friend has offered to rebuild it with me (I have zero experience with doing something like this!) in his garage.

Wish me luck!
