hello everone
i have tried searching for a workshop manual for above gearbox, with no luck.
the problem is that there is a lot of lost motion on the gear change lever and when it goes in gear it engages with a thump.
if anyone has a link to a manual or knows the problem it will be of great help
thanks.

Hello, I used to have a hurth gearbox on my boat and it had a similar problem, apparently the hurth is designed to go in gear at very low revs (much lower than tickover on my Ford 1.6 diesel) and so every time you put it in gear you will get a sharp uptake of the drive. this gets better the more you do it but unfortunatley the wear is tremendous and eventually you will be putting it in gear and waiting for it to drive. Replaced mine with a PRM from http://www.calcuttboats.com/gearbox.html it is more or less a straight swap and is compatible with the tickover on my engine.

HURTH 150 gearbox

I have this same box and removed it from my boat today as the forward clutch is slipping.
I took it to Lancing Marine near Brighton UK and they were very helpful.
They sell a proper workshop manual for £35. I looked thro' one and found it comprehensive.
Your engaging problem I belive can be adjusted. Not fully as this gear box should "clonk" as it engages. Mine is fine at about 750 RPM. The gearbox has done over 4000 hours and apart from a worn clutch looks to be in very good nick. I was going to buy the parts and repair it myself but their quote was so fair I left it with them. Good luck with yours.

Hurth 150 manual

If and when you open it up, you will understand why you should take it to a very qualified service and/or get a quotation for a new one. Nigel Calder I think advices something similar.
