Be there a week on Sunday for a demonstration of how to do it! CSC have their Lymington Spit Race and we've become quite good at it. We race from Christchurch to Lymington (used to be Jack in the Basket till someone hit it and they changed the turning mark to "Colston" nearby) and back. Choose your own start time and record your own finish time. The clever bit is to time your start so that the tide turns as you go round Colston! That gets you through Hurst with the last of the flood and back out with the first of the ebb. Usually gets us back to Christchurch in time for second high! I've never met anything hazardous even right in close to Hurst. Then a straight line route to Christchurch takes you right past North Head.
