Just spoke to a contact in Mallorca Pollensa NE side of island, last night hurricane force winds, the guy was up half th night trying to save his boat.

I seem to recall an article a little while back in one of the boat mags about a hugh storm in Pollensa & Alcudia which wrecked some boats in the marina.

Reminds me have top check how mine is at Chatham

Quite true, a bunch of boats were wrecked at the other side of the bay and the little marina there was trashed. I got caught there in early october, in a right hooligan, blew 55 knots that night, I dragged four humongous concrete blocks fifty meters! Took all of my engine power to put them back! The resident octopus, was not very pleased with me!! Not a pleasant night, no problems for the boat, but bloody hell, was it blowing!! Some boats were dragging moorings anchors etc, we tried to rescue one, but it was blowing so bad, I wouldn't go out again in the inflatable, just wasn't safe, never did find out what happened to him!

Re: Society for protection of octopi

Bloody typical .You just moor up to somebodys house willy nilly. It may be just a weedy old block of concrete to you...............but to an octopus it was home.Have you any idea of how overcrowded that corner of the seabed is,and as for the swim home each night after a hard day at the sewer pipe.Well its murder.I did hear that some people had to spend 14 hours stuck on the main route home along the sea wall after some storm or other.

Oooh look its still not dark and its nearly 5pm

Re: Society for protection of octopi

I must admit he was a very pissed off octopus! Big swine too, My crew wouldn't go swimming for days after I pointed it out to him! That was one hell of a night, I usually leave my mizzen up, to keep the boat bow on to wind/swell, but that night the old girl was trying to turn turtle, with a reefed mizzen alone! Trying to get it down, on my own, balancing on the after deck table, in my underpants in the pissing rain, was not a pretty sight!! Good job it was night time, might have been responsible for a few heart attacks with the old farts who come down at that time of year, bit like bournemouth!
