Sorry to not have attached these to the "Shock Horror" thread.
I hope attached are the pictures of the current situation at Hurley, which I took this afternoon. There still appears to be plenty of work left to do, but is certainly looks like a good job, especially the gleaming inside of the lock chamber, not that it'll last long. I think the metal work across the lower gates might be some sort of brace while the construction was in progress. I'm sure some Civil Engineer out there can advise?
Hopefully all the work will be done and dusted by the end of March as we move out of Temple and up to Hambleden then.
Poor old Narrow Boat has got a long wait.......

Thanks very much for those great pictures.
A good start for the collection.

In passing EA are being somewhat economical with the truth. The restriction notice states:-

" The main work is now complete but there is still some construction work going on around the lock area. We will be opening the lock from 1 March 2011 but to allow this we have had to put in place the following restrictions to ensure the safety of our customers."

I'm not surprised -looks like a bomb site! I enquired a few days ago and was told - no problems should be ready on time.

Before peeps take the opportunity to flame me, I accept that jobs overrun, especially in view of the weather conditions this year, but surely the management were well of the overrun???

To be told on Friday that the lock would not be fully operational by the posted date of Monday is a bit late in the day.

Something wrong in the Communications department.

OK, OK I know "we" are lucky to have any locks at all - especially all ship-shape and new, and it's out of season, so hardly any will be affected, and I shouldn't be complaining, but it's wet and the River's on Reds.

Hambleden must be one of the best moorings on the river you are lucky.

It must be getting time to take the covers off the boat and get her back into action then. I'm getting fed up with just sitting on her and emptying the swimming pool that keeps forming on the deck cover, or ice rink, as has been the case quite a few times!

Let's get on the water...

I rang the number given on Andrew Grahams last missive this morning to be greeted by a very nice man who said I couldnt travel through the lock this afternoon. I politely explained that Mr Grahams note of Sunday.........the day before the lock should have reopened ..........said I could, between 1400 and 1600. He went and checked....... came back and said , did I know the lock keeper has other duties ??? Yes , I said, I did know that, but please could I use the lock this afternoon at 1400. Yes, you can....phew......

We arrived at the lock gates at 13.57 ( approx) :D, to find no-one other than 2 workmen around. at 14-00 the lockie appeared and filled the lock.
He then kindly moved the work barge out and came to speak to us.
Apparently, he was on the phone to HQ and has told them , and they agreed, that the lock must remain closed from now on untill all works are completed.

SSSSSOOOOOOO..........it looks as though, at least at 14-15 today....Hurley is closed to all traffic untill further notice, "at least a couple of weeks" we were told. Elfin Safety was the given reason.
Sorry guys..........thats all I know.
Anyway , I am now awaiting a lift ashore ( keeping Apollo near company) .

Best wishes
