Hi Peter & Claire,

Right now there are 15 yachts (although 6 have headed south to Sudan & Eritrea) on the Vasco Da Gamma Rally. There is another 2 (1 Dutch, 1 Brazilian) and of course our 3 (Nimbus, Dream Provider & us) on the NOT the Fiasco Da Gamma Rally. We start heading south tomorrow, but right now are off to happy hour followed by an Egyptian meal whilst taking in the entertainment at the carnival.

Appreciate this is just a bit of fun but why do you call it this? I did the last Vasco Da Gamma (2009-2010) and at €600 it was the cheapest, safest way to make the passage from the Red Sea to India. Lo Brust is a consummate sailor with an incredible knowledge of the Red Sea marsas, and his organisation of the rally (a loose arrangement of meet points until formation sailing up Pirate Alley) suited the independent sailor who didn't want to be spoon-fed and organised like a child. Doing that passage was the hardest, most stressful thing I (and most of the other rally members) have ever done, but it was a means to an end that turned into an incredible experience. Its success was down to Lo and there was no fiasco about it.

You want fiasco? Try the Blue Water Rally.

I think it's called a fiasco because it doesn't go to India or anywhere near. Not any more. I believe the terminus for the rally these days is just below Egypt because of the pirate threat.

Hey you Guys & Gals,
Do take care the riots have now spread to Suez. According to local news they are getting all heated up and we saw the army/police in action-did not look pretty.

Lets hope if and when you decide to come back up to the Med it will have settled. keep a sharp eye and ear.

Peter
