My former shipmate is looking at buying a Hunter Horizon. The bottom rudder bearing has quite a bit of play and will probably have to be replaced before long.

My Googling only comes up with stuff about the American Hunters not the Rochford type. I imagine it is probably an acetyl top hat.

Has anyone got any information or can point me to a good source

A Quick Look at HA says yes, acetal top hat. Dimensions available to get machined. Nothing to be concerned about. If boat purchased joining the association is a must; very active and helpful.

the British Hunters regularly get confused with the American Hunter brand (they were called legend in the UK if I remember correctly).

I have the same boat and have had the rudder off many times.
There's a GRP tube with bushings top and bottom, I believe the ID of the GRP tube 45mm and the rudder shaft 35mm. There have been cases of the lower bush rotating in the boat rather than on the shaft so might need small amount of GRP work (that's worst case). I can't remember but I think the top bushing is glassed in but easy to cut out.

I would also recommend joining the Hunter association its really useful. In the meantime if you have any questions on the Hunter 27 send me a PM, I've had mine 15 years and undone and done up almost every bolt on the boat in this time :)
