Hunter Horizon 27 Galley

Have any Hunter Horizon 27 owners ever worked out the purpose of the moulding/box underneath the cooker in the galley.

I cant work out if it is some kind of water tight box for bouyancy?

I am wondering if I can turn it in to another locker space.
