The display screen on this device has become so dim that it can just about be read in daylight. This is even though it has been set to the brightest setting. Any ideas out there?

I had the same with a navman
there is a background light.
just take the back off and look for a short on the PCB
easy to solder a thin wire to bypass the burnt out PCB and it will be as good as new.
if there isn’t a short just replace the background led
