Hi
I'm begining plans for a delivery, heading south within the next couple of weeks starting from Goole.

It seems to me that leaving Goole at the top of the tide, carrying the ebb down river should get us to the mouth of the Humber in time to catch the Flood tide heading South. Yacht will motor at 6kts no problem.

Seems straightforward enough but any knowledge or advice from those that know the river (Ouse then Humber) is welcome. On the trip into Goole I seriously underestimated the amount of assistance from the flood tide, arrived at Goole way earlier than planned which made entering the lock one of the most nerve racking experiences i've ever had on a boat.

I'm keen to make the most of local knowledge and avoid such adventures in future.

Thanks in advance
Dave

Your plan appears generally correct, I can't see anything I disagree with.

The area to watch is past Immingham where there is considerable large shipping movements going at a pace. Careful planning and constant lookout needed round there.

Agreed with above

Only other thought is to give Humber VTS a shout before you leave the Ouse. The smaller shipd from Goole and the Trent can be more of a threat in the upper part of the river as they are very much confined to the channel and may well not be able to take evasive action without going aground.

Leaving Goole ocean lock last year we had booked a time the day before. But we were delayed almost one hour. There were ships wanting to use the lock and they were given priority.
On this years trip we were let out promptly at the arranged time.
So, it seems, the time you get out may be a bit of a lottery.

Personally i would leave an hour before h.w to give you maximum time to clear the humber and get the south going stream. Plus if there are delays in the lock its not so bad. But apart from that your plan seems ok. I would purchase an up to date chart from ABP for the lower humber and keep an eye on the sounder.
