I am on a swinging mooring and the stripes on my boat hull have become very 'chipped'. I made enquiries a couple of years ago and was quoted £200-£300 to have them replaced professionally on one side. I was thinking I might try and do it myself. Can anyone recommend a source for the vinyl strip that will need to be supplied cut to width?

Any tips or tricks of the trade?

The existing ones are a 3M product.

You can get any colour in any width from your local van graphics and signage people for not much money at all. It is easy to apply, it is difficult to make the end result perfect first time! There are tricks like spraying with water, masking tape for lines to follow, different squeegees for application and if you are nice to your signage man he will probably tell you. If you want to get the old stickers off, WD40 is useful.

I have just covered the painted stripes around my cockpit, as has been said use plenty of water (with a little washing up liquid in it) applied with a plant mister. This allows you to move the vinyl around before it sticks down.

The results were great, I will try and put some photos up soon.

I quite liked these stripes:-
