i'm rather tired of the rather masculine blue stripes on my pleasure craft and wish to remove them and replace with more appropriate pink ones. What's the best way to remove the existing ones?

If the stripes are painted on you could use T Cut and as this is what i am doing with my red stripes, Its hard work but you will get there in the end.

If they are the "stuck on" type they stick really well and are a real job to get off after a few years. After trying several ways I found a very very sharp chisel used slowly upside down like a plane work best. Then use hull cleaner to remove any staining.

I hope it works I'd love to see more boats with girly pink stripes.

Halfords sell a slightly more aggressive cutting compound in a big toothpaste type tube, I've always started with 1200ish Wet & Dry and worked to T Cut. Much quicker!

Yes - hairdryer worked for me when removing a gold coveline stripe. Left lots of glue behind but that came off with petrol.

SAC Tel(UK): 01384 443011 sell a Vinyl Name/Stripe remover, "suitable only for Gel-coated GRP do not use on painted surfaces",50ml bottle for about £4.50. I have used it on names and it worked well.

if using a a hair dryer
make sure you use the straight open vent and not the volumiser!!!!

Come on brain.get this over and i can go back to killing you with beer

Thank you all

Thank you all very much for the kind advice. I shall try boiling water initially and if they prove stubborn attack them with my hairdryer. I am having difficulty getting pink stripes any idea where I can get them? I'd also be interested in getting some ideas on where to get the letters for my boat name as I'd really be quite keen on replacing them with a more elegant font and colour?

Re: Thank you all

For boat names I've used Wet and Wild Graphics with excellent results. Their website allows you to play around with colours and fonts etc until you are happy with what you want before ordering. Prices seem reasonable and I found the lettering very easy to apply.

They don't advertise that they supply stripes but maybe give them a call?

Their site is at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wild-graphics.co.uk>http://www.wild-graphics.co.uk</A>
