Hi chaps

The hull could do with a bit of a "light" polish this year . To save getting the "scaffolding "set up whats the going rate for a light polish these days. Anyone had it done this year ??

Forgot to say its an 11mtr fin yacht .

Cheers

My yard has estimated about £300 for topsides of my 34. That includes a clean, polish and protective finish. It takes several hours if done properly, and it requires a warm dry day.

chap working in our club compound at the moment reckons on £150 for my 36 footer, excluding any really serious work that requires wet and dry. Seems a lot to me for someone working out of a van even though he is good.

looks like diy again this year.

Phoned a company recomended by someone in the yard tonight . A ball park figure ,without seeing the boat but accepting that its only a light polish, was £5oo . Bu**er that out comes the scaffolding me thinks .

We charge £7/foot up to the gunwhale for customers having other things done. £10/foot is a fairly common charge, more if it has a lot of scratches or very bad chalkiness. Decks are far more variable and are usually at least as much again, and are quoted individually.
Done with a really good polishing machine, the results are worth it. The modern polishes start medium course and break down to a finer polish as you work them with a machine. Hand polishing or a 12v halfords thing just wont do it.

So, what compound, polish and wax combination is best? I have to do the topsides of my boat in Spain at the end of the month, have read various articles but if the OP doesn't mind, I would like to know what the professionals would use.

I was thinking: G3/Mer/Any decent canuba wax? Although my boat topsides are in good condition, so might not need the G3?
