Hull Polish for GRP

What is the best polish to bring up a shine on White GRP (only 2.5 years old, no yellowing, just want it shiny!)

Swindleries seem to have hundreds of products, from midly expensive to £***&$$ shocking!

Halfords have similar! but slightly cheaper!

What it the best "back to shiny" stuff and where do i get it??

Thoughts and experience please!!!!!!!
 
I've used Autoglym on both cars and grp boats for years with great success.

However in a recent comparison in Auto Express , Comma Top Gloss is the winner. There are specialist cleaners for restoring neglected gel coat but if you keep it in good condition then car polish should be fine.

Meguiars...

Best stuff I've found is Meguiars. I only clean and polish my boat every 2 years, so I need a decent polish. Meguiars #45 Polish is great stuff - very easy to apply and polishes off easily. For best results, I polish it twice, then treat it with Meguiars #56 Pure Wax, which again is very easy to use. I do my 35-footer by hand without too much effort. I first heard about Meguiars when I asked the guys at Fox's yard what they used to polish the Oysters on display.
 
Try Starbrite's Teflon polish.

I was very sceptical when I heard about this stuff from a friend of mine, but its excellent. You need two 'coats', the second within 30 days of the first and the hull stays protected (i.e. water forms globules on the hull) for at least a full season.

Very easy to put on, let it dry to a haze, polish off to give a shine you need sunglasses to look at!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You can buy Meguiars boat products at decent chandleries, or online direct from Meguiars UK - click on Shop, then Marine, then Polish & Wax.

Or you could buy from adrianb's company Clean & Shiny (see post above), his prices are a bit higher but perhaps he might be persuaded give a discount to forum members????

If you do go down the "clean and shiny" route worth buying the polish putter onners and taker offers as well,having used old tea clothes and towels for all my boat and car polishing life,using the right kit was a revelation.The drying clothes are very good as well.

Usual caveats.

Got so much on at present with the DIY I am delegating all the straightforward winter work on boat to others.

I do find it hard to let others do the work as I have a misplaced high opinion of my own ability!!n Sad case that I am.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't think our cars will ever make it onto your website! They sometimes (not very often) get put through the car-wash. Sometimes if I am feeling very generous I pay for the foam wash, and not just the ordinary.

I am also wondering if I could afford (or want) a Ferrari, would I be polishing it myself....? Best of luck to them - and I am not disparageing your products, but it reminds me I seem to be in another world compared to some people.

I do polish the boat sometimes though. However I never quite got round to finishing it last year - or the year before come to that.
 
Another vote from me for Autoglym. A few years ago it was packed as Aquamarine System # or somesuch in the swindleries but was taken off the market. We use Autoglym after cleaning the hull eith Farecla G7 diluted with water, this is the basis of what used to be Boatpride Hull Cleaner, not the current muck but the original ammonium based one we used for years and years.

Autoglym is a resin based polish and is still beading after 11 months afloat, very easy to apply, a litre bottle costs around £11 so car not marine prices, available from Halfords and even Tesco!

Out of interest is P21S any good on GRP?

I bought some from you via (IIRC) AudiSport forum, but didnt get on with it, on my car, as well as another brand of wax.
