I have a three year old steel boat with a blue painted hull. The hull has become very marked (not scratched) where the fenders rub on the hull. I am trying to bring back the shine and have tried "T Cut" and other recommended polishes all to no avail. Would be grateful for any advice from those with similar experience.

Depends on what it was painted with I suspect. If it is a single pack paint cutting back and polishing probably won't work. I'd have thought that a two pack paint might respond though.

I can't remeber the exact manufacturer, but I do know the paint was applied with a hardener. I assume this means it is a two part paint.

The fact that it is two pack will probably mean that it is much harder than a normal enamel paint and as such will need a little more aggressive approach to polishing.

Try using a cutting compound and then T-cut.

Some of the new steel boats are sprayed with the same type of paint used in the aircraft industry and as such are designed to be tough. Ask the manufacturers what they recommend for cutting back.

Be aware that two pack paints although they can be cut back will never be as polished as they were when the were first sprayed.
