Another good tool either on its own or on a stick is a hard, plastic fishslice (the sort you use for flipping a fish over in the frying pan). They are just hard enough to get rid of barnacles etc but soft enough so they don't do much damage to the antifoul. The angled handle means you don't scrape your knuckles either.

Anyone know whether you can use a Scrubbis from on the boat at a swinging mooring (no pontoon available) ?

Much easier from a dinghy tied fore and aft alongside I would have thought.

I've used my Scrubbis from on board and it's just about OK for the area below the waterline but I think a pontoon would give more leverage. Not sure a dinghy alongside would though.
