What stops the hull anode bolts from leaking ?

Bolts pass through the hull @ 2 ft water pressure, does anyone know if they are fibre glassed in from new or is there a rubber seal on the bolts or is it just a daub of don cowans silicone sealant ?

How often should they be replaced ? (not the anodes, they get changed every year) I m thinking about the bolts .

I think you will find all the necessary instructions on MG Duffs website

http://www.mgduff.co.uk/leisure-craft/fitting-instructions/fitting-bonding.html

Change them if they become unserviceable. Special studs BTW

Now you are going to ask about stainless steel studs :) ... Your choice!

Before inserting and securing each stud assembly, apply a generous amount of marine grade sealant to the shank and collar where the stud touches the hull to ensure a good seal.

So, whats the best "marine grade sealant" to use?

Sika, red lead, oakum, Polysulphide, Silicone?????

Thanks VicS, all done :)

I'm not keen on stainless as it is much harder to lock than steel.

Even though I had a real wrestle to get the old bolts out I ve gone for steel again, no doubt a choice I will regret in 5 years when they have to come out again..

Daka, you reminded me of a boat some years ago where the owner of a brand new 40 footer (ish) decided not to check or bother to replace his hull anodes. The end result was that after I think it was two years, the anodes had gone and then the bolts, the result was it started to fill with water and was lifted. Not sure how much damaged was done inside.
