Re: Tenders

Perhaps it was dropped because they could not think of enough to say, after all they can't spend over half the test describing what a few tubes and two of three seats look like as the pictures would do that.

Or how well then "hang together/breathe" (delete as appropriate).

They would actually have to put some thought into telling us how well they handled/accelerated in some depth, and provide some meaningful comparisons and maybe even critisisms, heaven forbid.

Or...were the manufacturers all too busy fixing the faults that they "assured would be rectified on all future models" (yeah, right I am sure they will be) -

On this point (sorry to go on, but it really does annoy me!) you could just say they are badly designed and ill thought out in the first place. Imagine a car manufacturer launching a new model, then when told the door doesnt shut properly or that someone has cut themselves on a peice of badly designed trim telling the journo's "oh, don't worry about that, we know about it and are sort of maybe going to fix it tomorrow, or perhaps the day after that-ish"

Re: Tenders

As Tom says there was a plan to try and get all the jet RIBs together but a couple of the key players dropped out at late notice and were replaced by the conventional outboard RIB and a PWC instead. We'll have another bash at it since you all sound so keen. Could any owners of said jet RIBs PM or e-mail with their details so that we can garner their opinions on reliability and possibly bring their RIBs along if the manufacturers aren't willing to play ball?
If this works we could even extend it to bigger boats. It would be fun to introduce some reader power into the mag.

Re: Extra content

Good magazine, also part of the IPC stable I believe. However whereas MBY used to have a nice mix of reality and fantasy, Boat International is mainly fantasy with a dash of reality.

Re: Extra content

Not for long. Rumour has it that they are recruiting a couple of quality freelancers to give it some bite, and will also be looking at more sub-100ft Italian and British boats.

Re: Cheeky git

Did you know that Jeremy Clarkson doesn't actually exist? He (it) is rather like Peter Cumberlidge...a computer program devised by Reuters to generate reams of high-priced editorial and it's merely fronted by some big bloke. Can it be mere coincidence that Cumbo and Clarkson are both 6ft 4in tall? And have you ever seen them in the same room together, eh? No, nor have I.

Re: Cheeky git

Can it be any coincidence that the three greatest figures in history have the initials JC...? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Cheeky git

Absolute classic examples of MBY boat testing logic in the Fairline 47 Targa test by the way, sums up a lot of whats been said in this thread (and remained uncommented on by the "powers that be").

Apparently they couldn't find any rough water, but David Marsh has driven other Fairlines from 29-58ft and they're jolly good so ergo this one is too. (WHAT!!??)

Oh, and no power steering so SIX (!!) turns lock to lock in a Sportscruiser! But no no, thats all fine cos it responds precisely anyway, definitely not a criticism oh no.

Oh, and he cut his head on a raw glassfibre flange in the engineroom, but fear not cos Fairline are aware so he's every confidence future boats will be modified so definitely not a criticism, just a comment, will all be fine...

No phrase "breathes more easily" though, disappointingly, they must have missed that during the cut and pasting... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That sort of article is the reason I cancelled my MBY subscription. There's nothing wrong with it as such but it's not my cup of tea, bit blokes magazine.

Still subscribe to MBM and PBO which are great mags.
