Hudl2 tablet from Tesco

.....

Flash is no longer supported on Android so a 'legacy' plugin will have security issues; I don't want it on my device. iPads don't have flash and most sites are replacing it - including youtube.
.....
Yes, I made a mistake in my earlier post - it is not that the new Chrome supports Flash but rather that sites (inc the beeb) are moving away from it hence the embedded clips play.

Yes. Your site is correctly detecting that I don't have flash and serving an html5 video (that's in Firefox). It's what YBW should do.

As a workround you could post a direct youtube link underneath the embedded video on YBW. I'd personally be grateful if you did!

well that is most gratifying that the coding on the website is good

the website is under the control of a south coast Hurley sailor

an excellent person

I will try to remember to add the direct link

something else occasionally happens with some films in that the music is regarded as not available on "portable" devices such as phones or tablets but is allowed on "non portable" devices such as laptops

these people are getting themselves in a right buggers muddle over copyright

I put a video on YouTube a while ago and the music was not allowed in Germany due to copyright issues. The video is available in other countries though and has been viewed in all sorts of places including USA and Kazakstan. I wouldn't have expected the latter to have any interest in restoring furniture!

The Hudl is the only tablet I've spent any time researching of late and I find for the price it's brilliant. I just have not had a reason to buy one yet as my iPad 2 is still going strong after 3 years (touch wood) recently I was going to get a 3G iPad but decided at the 11 hour to cancel my order.

I'm sure I'll go and have a play with the hudl this Christmas but hopefully next year we can buy a Hudl 3 plus with a 9.7inch screen. :-) I don't think I could step down from the larger screen. It would be like stepping down to a smaller slower boat hoping to achieve what was done in the bigger boat:-)

Interestingly Dylan, whereas your embedded links never play on my Samsung Galaxy tablet, most other people's do. Always wondered why.

The ones in your website do work on my tablet though.

John

Dylan's embedded videos here use [ youtube ] tags which he tells me he types in. These won't play on recent Android devices, which lack Flash.

If you use the standard editor, click the filmstrip icon, and paste a youtube URL into the popup, they should play. This generates a [ video ] tag.

e.g. http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?411523-First-Video

Does that play on your Samsung?

Avoid [ youtube ] tags.

I've just given SWMBO my full fat ipad and bought myself an ipad mini. The smaller size is far mor convenient for mobile use, car, plane, sailing etc.

Anyone had any problems charging the Hudl 2 via 12 volt. I cant get it to keep up the charge whilst it is use?

Apart from that it is nice bit of kit.

What kit/adaptors are you using to charge the hudl via 12v? It could be that your kit does not provide the necessary current?? (this is a relatively common problem if you are using a phone adaptor to charge a tablet!)

Tried various phone chargers and usb leads into a multi socket. Tesco support only point me in the direction of the hudl1 kit that is advertised to work for the hudl 2 but its power is 5V 2.1A which is no better than the multi socket.

I was going to try something bigger but don't want to kill it.

I reckon the Hudl2 is stunning value. As good as the Nexus 7, but about £50 cheaper. Battery life is reputedly not brilliant, but adequate for most users.

Suggest you look @ the PCPro comparison - in fact with the SDHC expansion slot the inferior graphics, shorter battery life and slower boot pale into insignificance.
However different people have different needs and the being first-in-queue for OS upgrade might be a factor - KitKat is already obsolescent .

In fact the problem usually lies with the USB cable.
If you try the USB cable for use with Samsung Galaxies you'll get more than the 0.5amp maximum charge of a usb2.
