Hudl2 tablet from Tesco

Just seen it over the road in Tesco Metro. £129.00, has GPS, runs Android 4.4 KitKat (is that up to date version? I dunno). Screen 8.3inches, weighs 400 grams, resolution is 1920 x 1200. So I know it isnt the best spec, but it really does seem to be good enough. And at that price.... Virtually disposable.

Reminds me of pocket calculators. When they came out they did virtually nothing and cost a month's wages. Soon they'll be printing disposable tablets on the back of a cornflakes box.

But until then, what do you think?
 
I wish I had just bought one of those and a basic mobile phone instead of signing up to Virgin for two years to get a smart phone that I'm beginning to hate :ambivalence:

As a confirmed technology under achiever, do I understand from this that I can connect my cheapy pay as you go mobile to the Wife's Samsung Tab 10'' and in effect then have a 'smart' phone?

That's sort of where I am with my Mk1 Hudl, now back to an un-smart phone.
So long as I can use SWMBO's phone as a hotspot for the hudl on the odd occasion, it works for us.
I find a small low tech phone that's actually in my pocket is more use than a big smart phone that's left in my jacket.

As you will see from my other posts about computers and phones, I am not to be outdone when it comes to under-achieving :o

Only 99p cheaper than you've been able to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8" 16Gb for ages now.
Doesn't seem that much of a steal to me.

Depends how much you appreciate a high definition screen, I suppose. The Hudl's 1920x1200 pixel screen is very impressive.

Check the data allowance ( and if the SIM is data enabled). As you say its PAYG, no danger of running up a huge bill.
Those with a monthly deal be careful. A single film beyond your allowance could cost (eg 700m @ 50p/m) £350!
 
I looked at one yesterday and was impressed. It doesn't have 3/4g but seems to have everything else including skype. Also you can double up your points so if you buy your groceries from them you can bag a real bargain.
 
my tablet runs kit kat and as i don't use any apps that are affected by the sd card issue i'm happy. but i do wish google and the bbc would fix the problem with iplayer downloads.
 
The only specification I can find for the Hudl 2 says that it does not have GPS, unlike the original one, which did. If that is correct it will be useless to me and I suspect many others on here. I am out of the UK so cannot go to Tesco to check it personally. Can anyone confirm whether it has GPS or not?

Just been and bought one to find out:) It does have GPS.
 
I've checked settings and can confirm it's 4.4.2

It performed a system update the first time I switched it on, but I couldn't tell you what was updated.
