Does anyone know what size breaker should be used when installing a Hubbell 16 amp 230V shore power socket.... I think the brand that they use is Cardinal.....Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't think you would want the shorepower plug to fail first so the breaker would need to be less than that, not that I know anything about it, just my way of thinking.
If your using a 16 amp outlet from the dock then it would be pointless to fit a 20amp breaker, as then the 16amp dockside breaker would always trip out first rather than your main shore power breaker on your boat. If you are using a higher rated dock outlet, say 32Amp and happen to have a small electrical fault on your boat then you will be able to pull 19.9 amps through your shore power cable all day without you main breaker tripping, this situation can over heat cables depending on the size and length of your shorepower cord or cable runs.
