Under a new scheme launched by Minister Gove a new scheme of Highly Protected Marine Areas is being proposed.

This looks a revival of the 'Reference areas' originally proposed as part of the MCZ project. The key phrases in the new proposals talk of removing all damaging human influence in these new areas. Clearly such threats as anchoring and fishing in any form will be included, but Natural England is busy trying to demonstrate that the mere presence of boats is a damaging influence because of their noise, size and speed through the water. There's a parallel with not approaching wildlife on land to avoid disturbing it.

May I just correct the Headline in the Telegraph it says Brittish waters , under devoultion the Waters around Scotland are for the Scottish Goverment to decide and we have MCZ zones were sailing is not any issues , but our access laws to land and sea are more focused on the freedom of movement and are diffrent to those of England
https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot/

I have sympathy with those in England , it is a crowded land with over 60 million people compared to the 5 million in Scotland , and I am afraid man made destruction of the enviroment is a factor , but it is the few that make it worse for the many that respect it
There is also Policy going through the Scottish parliment in regards to Whale watching and approaching marine wildlife , a more robust attitude is needed as more boats are approching whales around Scottish waters , New Zealand has a fantastic approach to this and regulates whale , Dolphin watching well .

Not intrested in an argument just having a open discussion with like minded people :encouragement:

Given the treatment of the lone dolphin in Poole over the past few weeks, some boaters aren't helping themselves....

The problem will always be that wildlife interaction is hard to police individually, whereas exclusion zones are much easier. Mind you, that doesn't stop illegal fishing in the Wales scallop box for example.

Yes. there's been times when I wondered why I was bothering with Studland the way a minority behave there. But it is just that, a minority. Unfortunately we all get tarred with the same brush, like football supporters when hooligan minorities let everyone down. Policing is another matter. Existing Wildlife Legislation can carry fines up to £20k per offence. A few of those handed out to unfortunates who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time would soon change attitudes!
