Hows things in the SOF at the moment?

We've been here for a couple of weeks. On the whole it's not a busy as usual, but still busy. Masks worn inside everywhere, make sure you bring some. We only eat outside and all waiters wear masks. It's all good!

I think the hostility comes because I always ask for well done. It drives French chefs crazy

Yeah they hate that especially when you ask for your steak tartare well done and with ketchup

We are going out again this Sunday for 2 weeks and I dont care whether the UK imposes a quarantine on visitors from France or not because the quarantine is fundamentally unenforceable
I'm working in Paris and mask wearing is pretty much 100 percent in any indoor space and has been. I fall into the exempt category but would argue about the unenforceable nature of the quarantine law. If numbers in France continue to go up , and they are in the greater Paris area, Quiberon , the Mayenne and a few other areas then I imagine there is a good chance of quarantine being imposed.
Certainly I would dib anyone, including on here, to the border force and public health England whom I thought were breaking the quarantine as they are threatening others with their action. Risking a criminal record is probably a bigger impact for most than the 1,000£ fine.

They only need to go after a small sample and rely on tip offs to make it fairly well adhered to.

Covid certainly has brought out the peak capped little Hitler tendency in some Brits hasnt it  For the record, I also fall into an exempt category so dont bother dibbing me

That's one way of looking at it. The other is that you were implying for yourself and others to just ignore an instruction that's introduced in order to save lives. Which would be a bit morally repugnant to many.

Yeah, I think we’ve gone from informative to light heartedness to agressive in only two pages. Time to tone it down everyone

Agreed. Last thing I'll say to moondancer2 on here on the subject of quarantine is to suggest that he asks himself why the UK is the only country doing it?

To be fair that's a very good point. Although Germany has given advice to it's people not to visit parts of Spain.

I don't think Sage wanted people to be going on holiday abroad at all this year and I think that it is relatively easy to implement. The government don't have much other wriggle room if case numbers rise significantly and they want to keep the economy from completely tanking.

Perhaps Greta Thunberg is spinning with joy ....the real answer is to close virtually close down all air port travel ....period .
Except for vital trips , stuff like notary signings , house clearances and funerals , body repatriation....stuff like that .
This means throwing the airline industry and its hanger on side kick business under a bus .
Its already kinda happening .BA prematurely getting rid of there 747 fleet etc etc + much more .8000 jobs this week , 12000 lost last week and so and so .
You don,t need to fly except for the reasons ^^^ .
This means boating ...and Mike F , you could drive if you could be arsed .
So thus far the great unwashed 600000 or is 800000 / per week feel it’s there right in the middle of a pandemic, with no cure , no vaccine, and various continual new therapies....none lasting 5 mins before another ” wonder treatment “ be it used donated plasma or hydroxiquinine or what ever .....to jet off to Spain , eat fish n chips , what’s football , seek sex via an airport .
Its the airport experience cramming them together breaking current social distancing protocols ( proven to work ) ....thats 6-800000 on change over day ..Sat or Sun .Its not like it’s spread over 7 days it’s crammed into 1/2 days .

So they test +ve 3;4 days post rtn ...what about the rest on the plane / airport ....ludicrous, absolutely lubricious I terms of disease control .
Never mind about the actual quarantine checks ......issue the 14 day hassle = huge slump in numbers the 800000 drops to 8000
Bingo ...mission accomplished ....the hard working contentious who choose NOT to expose them selfs to the airport risk feel justified.
Theres a strong very strong argument that airport users ( unless absolutely necessary ) are uber selfish and total disregard to the ones that are trying to comply to the basic rules .
This thing is hear to stay .
Italy had 180 new cases and 5 deaths yesterday......because nobody’s flying out / away ....mixing and bring it back.

800000 a week to Spain in a pandemic ....pleaaaaaaaaaase !

Germany’s problem is like I said above the opposite of the Italians .They are moving .
They are bringing it back .Was knack all now significant since they have scattered and bringing home .
On the St Bernard pass last Sunday must have been 2/300 bikes parked at the summit.
Its as if the headmaster has rang the bell and schools out !
Again mixing , like us shipping 800000 Brits to Spain and back every week end ...it seems 1/ 2 of the clicking boot brigade are invading Southern Europe by road .
This will have consequences ....erh ...there numbers are breaking there own ( admittedly low ) recorded s.

The more people are allowed to mix , get close , the more it will spread .
We are not calculating the re entry trajectory of a moon mission here ....it’s very basic virus transmission science .

We are drifting ( sorry folks ) into the whole EU crap cluby ness .....that will be it’s downfall .
They HAVE to uphold the freedom of movement plank .Cant afford now or anytime to loose that .
You know centralised Brussels unity etc etc .
More so now with the spotlight of the rest of the world watching the final EU / UK “ deal “ negotiations.
Last thing now for the 27 is for them to start squabbling and literally putting up barriers ....return of hard borders .

Of course we are out the cosy club .
So for us now is exactly the time to demonstrate how decisive we are making decisions , open to the luxury of stuff like 4 hr notice , Not having to ask the other26 , a 2 day conference lasting 5 .....I think the term is called sovereignty......
Thats why the UK is the “ only one “ .....because we can .

I have driven to SoF from UK a few times. I like driving (and motorbiking) but sorry the journey there and back is mind numbingly boring and its also expensive. The toll cost alone is about €200 each way plus the fuel, wear and tear on the car and an overnight stop. Its just cheaper and more relaxing to fly

I disagree with that but this isnt the forum to have further discussions

That really is a crime. A permanent ban is the fitting punishment.
From the restaurant, the forum or France in general? I think some waiters don’t like to confront the chef with such an order, they take it as an insult.
(nothing to do with my order) but in a scene reminiscent of Fawlty Towers, I once saw a waiter running out of a restaurant for his life followed by a furious French chef

All 3;) From a man with good nautical taste I despair about your sense of good cuisine. And your poor houndbeing subjected to overcooked prime steak. The RSPCA will shortly be knocking on your door:LOL:
