Howard\'s Way Trailer Sailor \'Skua\'

Hi.

Does anyone know the actual design name, builder etc of the trailer sailor called 'Skua' in Howards Way. Sad I know to admit I watched Howard's Way but the boat would appear to suit my current needs.

Thank you.

No, the Spring 25 was called Flying Fish and appeared in the title sequence (what a sad life I lead.)
I don't remember a boat called Skua (well maybe not all that sad after all.)

Re: Howard\'s Way Trailer Sailor \'Skua\'

The yacht in the opening, the Flying Fish, sequence is a Laser 28. The MG Spring 25 was called 'Spring of Tarrant'. The 'Skua' appeared in the final series and appeared to be of wood construction and in the region of 18 feet or so. I could go on but that would just confirm how sad I am!

Don't worry.... this is how sad I am... I found the theme tune from the program /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

BTW, if you want to listen, right click and Save Target As...

I suggest you ask Michael Briant who contributes to the forum under the name of MichaelE. Howard's Way was his idea and he was involved in its production.

Lynne crossed the Atlantic in the Barracuda of Tarrant - a Sadler Barracuda.
The MG was the Spring 25 (called Spring of Tarrant) and the Flying Fish was a Laser 28. Jack Rolphe's boat Orkadian was actually a Pelican 21. They also had the Lynette, a cat, whose real make I have forgotten. The Mobo in the credits was a Sealine and the rich bloke who dumped Lynne had a Hatteras!

I think you'll find that's what I said

"Jack Rolphe's boat Orkadian was actually a Pelican 21"

I really cannot remember.

The 'trailer sailer' was a story line that 'floated' around for ages - It was meant to be a 'brand new idea for a boat' but was in fact based on an existing design - bet it was by Tony Castro... Cannot for the life of me remember which one... I never saw it or sailed in it and thought the story line was a bit flimsy to say the least!

And Smee doesn't remember Skua!

Re: Howard\'s Way Trailer Sailor \'Skua\'

she did keep bumping into the hard stuff - Bob Fisher is not that good at reading a echo sounder!!!!

Also she was the mould for the Barracudas that were built by Sadler's. Her drop/swing keel was over 2 metres if I remember correctly and a couple of times with Bob we were pushing mud when he forgot to lift it--- the keel I mean..

I thought that I'd already posted a response to this but it seems to have disappeared! Any old how, I know that this is a very old posting but my wife was searching Google for any reference to the boat "Skua" and Howards Way and found these these threads. Just for the record, my late Father, Capt. Pat Higgins, was commissioned by the producers of Howard's Way to design and build Skua. After he retired as a pilot for Gulf Air in Bahrain he moved to Totland Bay in the IoW. His lifelong passion was designing , building and generally messing about in boats. Whilst Skua was still in its concept stage, Dad was watching an episode of Howard's Way where the cast were discussing the concept of a trailerable weekend sailing boat. The next day, he contacted the show's producer to explain that the exact concept was on his drawing board and could he offer his services to build the boat for the show. After several meetings, work commenced and the rest, as they say, is history. Should anyone out there know what happened to Skua I would love to hear from them. I can be contacted on johnchiggins@btinternet.com. Kind regards, John.
