I am coming out next week and going to change the transducer, the current one is plastic and am wondering is there a simple damage free way to take it out. Would a hacksaw blade forced flush with hull work?

thanks for any replies

Multi tool would be better

I'd start by trying to unscrew the nut on the inside, run a thin flexible knife blade around under the rim outside to cut the sealant, and then push it downwards. But I must admit that the last transducer I took out (speed rather than depth) ended up coming out in small pieces with the aid of a chisel :)

Remove the locking nut from the inside- and it may be easier just to break it off- and with some grips try turning the transducer a bit. Most of the sealant is between the outside of the transducer tube and the hole cut through the hull, so try to clear that out rather than lever it from underneath to start with. On the underneath, and taking care not to dent the grp, with a large screwdriver blade or chisel tap around the edge of the transducer. Then it is a bit of work from above and below until the sealant starts to give, but easier with two obviously or it is alot of climbing back and forth. I think it was easier to finally break the seal by twisting than levering. It will give, eventually !
I am assuming you will bin the transducer.

You would n't like to rephrase that would you?

What is coming out?
‘Coming out’ means telling someone something about yourself that isn’t immediately obvious. In relation to sexual orientation and gender identity, this means sharing with others that you are lesbian, gay, bi or trans.

Unscrew the nut inside the hull, run around the edge of the fitting in the outside with a sharpe dge then tap a Stanley knife blade in at various places to increasing depths to break the seal. Gently does it. A wedge has a powerful action.

hi Montemar
do you mean tap a chisel around the outside ( hull side) ?

A chisel blade is quite big. It is not easy to get a Stanley knife blade in but it is small and very sharp with a very slender taper so could be tapped in with a small hammer. Once the flange has been eased it may then be possible to get a chisel in.
The danger is that the blade breaks because it is so hard. Elfin safety says wear googles.
