How to wire up (integrate) and inverter?

Yup, I agree the excalibur analysis too - one relay ensures no possibility to connect 2 main sources together. The Mastervolt "masterswitch" is set up this way. I've no idea if its negative overlap is as long as 20milliseconds but praps they've thought of that an it is.

But just on your comment "you will probably only engage the inverter when there is no mains" I dont think that's right. It's entirely plausible for example that the inverter could be on to power a music system/phone charger/TV at anchor, then the galley team start the genset to cook lunch
 
OK I do accept that. There should be little surge anyway and if that was the situation, all it requires is a simple SOP:

1) Switch off load circuit
2) Switch on inverter relay
3) Switch on load circuit

I would not use two relays for the reason you suggest, unless like a star-delta starter they are mechanically and electrically interlocked! Now going over board I think......
