I am sure someone will know this but I am rather puzzled by it all!
The GPS has an NMEA data cable, bare wires at the business end and I want to connect the GPS signal to my DSC VHF, AIS Radar and my PC upon which sit my lovely electronic charts. All of these devices appear to be NMEA 0183 and I have read about senders and receivers.
Presumably the GPS out or sender from the GPS goes into the first receiver and then out again to the next and so on, but what do you do at the PC and where in the chain should this be? My PC has RS232 blue female socket and USB 1.0
I might add an AIS engine as well to display the AIS targets on the PC chartplotter, but rather like my old AIS Radar as a standby as it has its own screen in case one day the PC refuses to boot up.
Could someone who understands all this please give me the heads up, or if it has already been discussed at length, could some kind soul please send me the URL?
