I am just back from another powerboat delivery... This time it was a Trader 54 from Gibraltar to Rochester. Biscay in January is never that appealing, but we were able to take advantage of a perfect weather window after just 4 days of waiting in Camerinas. The trip in the end took 10 days with two refuelling stops (Camerinas and Guernsey).

During the delay in Camerinas I decided to make a quick how-to video; "Siphoning Diesel (without drinking it!)".

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this? Do you think I should make some more How-To Videos? Are there any particular How-To's you'd like to see?

Many thanks,

Pete

Hello

Very interesting tip on how to do that. Yes , please keep these informative vids coming.

Well done

Siphoning by blowing instead of sucking is very clever, I wouldn’t have thought of that. I would like to see how to get fuel out of the boats main tank as your next vid.
Can’t get enough instructional vids as far as I’m concerned, well done :encouragement:

@7.00 when he announced it was foggy, I wonder why they didn't have thee radar turned on? (The scanner wasn't spinning)
Good video as usual Pete.:encouragement:

Pete, you always make these trips look so easy, which I'm sure they are not.

What I'd like to see in a "how to" is how you forecast the days weather and your decision process for whether to press on or not (if the forecast doesn't look favourable). And also how you do your fuel planning when conditions are less than idea.

Pete - I used Halcyon to bring my new boat across Biscay and down to the Algarve, the Skipper and I were constantly looking at GRIB and Predict Wind to ensure that conditions were safe. We were lucky to have no time constraints which really takes the pressure away regarding urgency, we were also extremely lucky to have flat seas across Biscay in late November.
We did have a F7 following wind and sea coming south down the Portuguese coast but having an experienced Halcyon Skipper in charge made a potentially worrisome 24 hours feel like a walk in the park.

These days the forecasting is so accurate, Predict Wind is especially good and has integration with my B&G plotters - meaning I can route based on weather conditions.
I know that you have your own views on boat delivery but the experience I gained by using Halcyon and crewing for their Skipper has been priceless, (and far cheaper than road haulage).

I’d recommend them without reservation.
