How to upgrade Raymarine A Series Chart Plotter

Hi, I've found out that my (inherited) Raymarine A series Chart Plotter is running a very out of date operating system (Release 12).
Apparently, I can download the latest version onto a MicroSD and then insert said MicroSD into the plotter and everything will be updated...
Just wondering if anyone has actually done this? I don't want to lose the existing charts on the Raymarine (all inherited...).

It's a standard procedure and should be without problem if you follow the Raymarine instructions.

I suspect the OP may have an a-series, not an A-series. The a-series has had a v12 software release, whereas the A-series seems not to.

I suspect the OP may have an a-series, not an A-series. The a-series has had a v12 software release, whereas the A-series seems not to.

have updated mine quite easy, the update corrects an error if you have a auto pilot fitted and other issues - some of the later chart options wont work on old software, you are updating the firmware that has nothing to do with your charts, all units if on a network must be turned on!
