I have one of these on the holding tank, the visible bit has a small square plastic body with a round flange, all moulded as one. Do they just unscrew? I don't want to give it any more elbow grease as it feels like the plastic will break, but if that's how they come out i'll just have to keep going until it does. Maybe they've used sealant as it's on the holding tank.

I have them on both water and fuel tanks (ain't got a poo tank). I've taken both out at various times, they just unscrewed with a big spanner.

Nick, yes as others have said they should just unscrew, they have a 1.5 inch BSP thread. The body is actually quite tough and should take a fair amount of force, for grey and black water they don't need any sealant as thy have an O ring, might be worthwhile replacing whilst you are at it. Simon.

I seem to remember when I put mine on I didn't think it went on straight so I tried to undo it and it was really really tight, I didn't use a spanner to try to force it but I did feel the front move as I applied a bit of strength but it did move so when i did get it off I put a good layer of Vaseline on it. As it turned out it was on straight.

Assuming it is from the Princess

We have unscrewed ours several times - in fact we keep a spare one but just cleaning the old one seems to fix any problems.
We just remove it from the boat and wash it with hose.
From memory, it is a bit like one of those hatch covers with little flat surfaces about every 45 degrees - gentle tapping unscrews ours.
Ours is white plastic

Good luck

I used one of these when mine was stuck , WD40 round the threads first.
I didnt wrench the square bit, I went for the thin round top bit so I couldnt wrench the square off.

I decided to leave it as I didn't have time to source a new one if it broke.

Hi Nick

Just to finish this one off, I used water pump pliers on the flange as per Daka's suggestion, worked perfectly. A tight fit (which you want it to be...) but definitely no prob getting it undone. Not the most pleasant cleaning task in the world, but all done now.

Cheers
Jimmy
