I've seen a guitar I'd like to buy, but it's too far away to collect (Wales to Essex).

I'm a bit concerned about it being damaged in transit, unless anyone can recommend a meticulously careful, well padded carrier.

Any thoughts?

Ta!

you'll need a decent guitar case anyway if its a good instrument. a hiscox liteflite case will protect it in transit against just about anything. even a standard hard case would be fine for transport on a reputable carrier. i sent my Martin D35 by City Link in a hard case and everything was fine.

I met a bloke called les he takes anything anywhere, but it takes its time to get there.h

He does seen to look after it. And he is quite cheap.

He is not the only one, advertise your job then read providers feedback.

Pm me if you want his number.

No connection, etc.

+1 I have a stagg hard case for my Les Paul and an Epiphone hard case for my EJ-200 and i have taken both abroad and on my boat every trip with not a mark
on them. :)

One thought :) Guitar bought in Iceland a friend got (into Poland) for me by airplane, perfectly OK, it was in only in 'soft-case' and put into cargo hold. This kind http://www.haywardguitars.com/ekmps...-lightweight-classical-guitar-case-5868-p.jpg
But must say this guitar got a bit scratched later when kept in this on the boat. Well, it got into F11 for a time, so had it rough... Still sound is nice.
Another I heard about went all around the world by planes and aboard, in 'hard-case' like this, for boat it's better to have such http://www.keymusic.com/gfx_productcode/XL/113351/2/TKL-7600-Wood-Classical-Guitar-Case.jpg.

Wales to Essex "too far" ? Hmmm :)

Yeah...too far, as in, I don't want it so much that I'd want to spend two days driving, plus fuel costs, plus probably staying in a hotel for the night.

It's nice (by my very low guitar standards!), but nothing really, really special.

I couldn't buy a guitar without a test drive.
They are just too individual.
I've been in knowing exactly which guitar I want only to discover it didn't feel right.
I then pick one up which, as my swmbo says, gives me the 'Olivanders' moment,
(That's when Potter gets hold of the wand destined for him), and I have to buy that one. Invariably a few hundred more than I wanted to spend of course.

This from another forum recently:

"Ok, I have only used them once, but APC Overnight were fantastic. I sent my vintage Gibson Les Paul, fully insured up to £2000 with an overnight service for £30+vat! All other couriers either refused carriage or charged £120+

I got through to real people in the local branch who were really happy to help with my booking and subsequent enquiries.

They came when they said they would!

They called the recipient to tell him they were coming!"

Yeah, exactly, such was a story with this one from Iceland. :o Only went to buy one as there wasn't any aboard - only to find lots of junk and one unusual, in a spanish style, which sounded... Luckily a big limit on credit card...
Either it suits, or not, first play it, then buy.
But then buy a hard case for it, this is cheaper than guitar itself (a good one at least) and can be shipped in it safely. Comes handy anyway.
