Dear All

I'm searching for the sister ship of my Largs Class boat.

Spent a lot of time searching the Internet without much luck.

Can anyone suggest another way to find a certain type of boat please?

My boat is 'Carna' LA1 1965 and I'm searching LA2 1969 'Annette' AKA 'Zara of Arran'.

Built be William Boag in Largs Scotland.

Exactly what you have been doing plus possibly the old Lloyds register books.

There is no central register of boats and no compulsion to tell anybody that you own a boat or where it is. So just detective work of following any leads you can get from sources that may have known of the boat's existence or whereabouts some time in the past - and posting on forums!

Good luck with your such but don't hold out much hope of success.

Scala!

Well done - that's her! Wow, thanks! I spent ages trying to find her. I will email the web site and see if they can put me in touch with the owner. (I hope my boat doesn't need that sort of work!)

In my records I have a letter from of the then owner of this boat (Zara) responding to a Classic Boat article published by the owner of my boat. I believe this may be one of the following:-

1. Largs One Design (article) 5/46

2. Zara letter 11*/64; 91/155; 60/161

I wanted to quiz the owner of Zara on the interior as mine has been messed about a bit, also let them know that I have a super-8 film of the launch of all three boats!

Again many thanks for finding her!

Best regards, Julian.

Thanks for the information re. Carna. She was the first one of 3 boats, so called 'Largs Class' designed and built by William Boag in the late 1960's. In my records I have a letter from Peter Walker written to the then owner of Carna in the early 1990's (no date). In that letter he is very excited about a letter written by Carna's then owner (Robert Fitzpatrick?) to Classic Boat magazine. He was the owner of LA2 'Annette' (ex. Trucial) and talks of meeting up before Carna heads south. Sadly Peter Walker was killed a few years later in a helicopter accident. If anyone knows if anything else about these boats, that would be great. I have an amazing super-8 film of these boats being launched and I'm sure the other owners would love to see it. Julian.

Update...

I have discovered that the boat 'Zara of Arran' is in fact the third boat LA3, was restored in 2016 and is currently for sale in Spain.

In my records I have a letter from a Peter Walker to Robert Fitzpatrick introducing him shelf as the owner of LA2 'Annette' (Ex Trucial). The letter is not dated, but I believe it was sent in between about 1990 to 1994. The letter was prompted by an letter (or article) about either the Largs class of my boat LA1 (Carna) that appeared in Classic Boat magazine. This was just before Carna was moved south and Peter Walker suggests meeting up before this happens. Peter Walker worked at PLM helicopters and I believe he was killed in a helicoper accident in 1996 so could have possibly still owned Annette - LA2 at that time.

If anyone knows anymore I would be very grateful, thanks, Julian.
