Mounted a new SS exhaust elbow on a VP D2-55 and used Permatex Red Rtv as a silicone gasket.
Cleaned on the outside the silicone that were squeezed out and then I started to think on how does it look on the inside, is silicone reducing the area for the exhaust gases?
If I open and look I assume the gasket will be damaged.
Is Permatex red rtv silcone gasket something you remove and add new silicone every time you remount after say a inspection/ cleaning?
AI gave me the answer and I can’t delete this post.
”Clean and Dry Surfaces: Remove any old RTV or gasket material from both mating surfaces. Clean with a residue-free solvent and ensure they are completely dry before applying the new RTV”
