How to cut foam?

My wife worked for a foam manufacturing company. They cut all their foam with a band knife. We cut ours for various reupholstery projects with scalpels, but a larger, equally sharp knife would be better as it gives a straighter cut. As said earlier, pulling the two parts open helps enormously.

At that time much of the foam they made was Methyl di-isocyanate cured, which caused health problems in many of the employees. I suspect that this type is not made now due to furniture legislation.

An electric carving knife is both cheaper (if you have one) and better than all the other suggestions.
It's about time forumites stopped suggesting daft ideas that will both cost money and be a poor second.
