Hi all,

My boat was coppercoated last year and this winter I've just had the a 185mm dia tunnel glassed in for a bow thruster. I want to paint out the tunnel with coppercoat & I'm wondering how best to apply it and wonder if anyone has done the same job. Reading the coppercoat application guide it says 'always apply by roller' but I cant see that a 4" mini roller would be effective. any thoughts?

Thanks

No reason you can't use a mini-roller of a suitable fleecy finish. Easiest if you bend the rod so instead of the roller being at 90 degrees to the handle, it's at something like 45 degrees. It's fiddly so you'll probably get a few runs, but that's no great problem. Wear long sleeves ;)

Although small rollers are 4", you can also get even smaller ones which are only 2".
Or you could be a real PBO, and just cut a 4" one in half. :D

The little nooks and crannies on my hull which couldn't be rolled were finished with a brush, seems to work still.

It will work if you stipple rather than brush. If you brush the copper goes to the bottom protected by a this layer of empty resin.

For the tunnel, completely straighten the mini roller handle so the roller is in line with the handle.

How about one of those long rollers for doing behind a radiator? Bent so that the roller sleeve is in line with the handle, as suggested.

It sounds like a long straight roller frame is the way to go. I must admit that I was thinking of going back and forth with the roller :o and that is why I could not see being effective. Rollering it out by going round the tunnel give a complete different perspective!

Thanks all
