How to analyse oil?

I used to get the oil from my aircraft engine analysed, until someone suggested that I get a second opinion so I sent portions of the same sample to three different labs - and guess what? Three different results. At that point, I gave up on the oil analysis and simply had a bloody good look at the paper element that came out of the engine at oil change time.

Surely to be effective , you would need two samples from each engine and some running hours apart ( and at same lab) ?? So you can see any difference in the findings and tell if something is failing ??

The main reason I had a good look at the oil and filters before I purchased and didnt bother with oil samples.
