No we don't have a MAC - we did not want to overspec the equipment we carry

Maybe it's just me, but I find this insistence on 'proper' naval terminology a bit blasé.

I use the terms that are easiest understood and leave least room for misinterpretation.
So, it is port & starboard (not left & right), ahead & astern (not forward & back) ...
But it's also: kitchen, toilet, ... We even have a cellar /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Refering to my first post on this thread...........

I rest my case. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Using fancy words does not make you a better sailor /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Plenty talk the talk - few walk the walk.

Point of my first post.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fancy words have nothing to do with anything, What is fancy about refering to the parts of a boat or ship by their correct names??

Anyway, my answer to the OP was entirely in jest, and was without malice.

So when I say "Pull hard on that string there and the front hanky will go up the stick" it's not right ?.
Oh dear, what a pity, never mind /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What use the correct name?
As long as it's understood - that's all that matters.
Referring to the galley as kitchen has nothing to do with seamanship.

Who said it did?

Have a nice day! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kids, different uses of their boat, not everyone wants to sail but still enjoys the water and its surroundings.

I have to say I fell into this trap over the weekend, working on a 42 boat all weekend and had to start the generator to boil the kettle as no gas on board and no shore power.

Fortunately I had the radio on so loud it drowned the sound of the generator out...

I'm almost embarassed to admit that we have:
3 sat phones, 2 fridges, 1 freezer, 1 ice maker, 3 air con units, vacuum and lots of other stuff. However, we also have a Northern Lights genset, 3 135 watt solar panels and a Kiss wind generator.

As far as the genset goes, we can hardly hear it below decks when it is running and I defy anyone up or downwind to hear it. In a marina we can run it at the dock and standing on the pontoon next to the boat you would have no idea it is running.

It's not what we have that matters but how we install it and use it, there is absolutely no need to annoy or inconvenience others.

Gotta go, its over 90 degrees outside and I need to ramp up the air cons.
