The photos and video took after the engine already running for half an hour. The engine sounds running smoothly.

1. The engine is Volvo Penta TAMD61A
2. Idle speed 600 rpm
3. The fuel is red diesel
4. I already added some cetane into the fuel following the cetane supplier instruction. No difference at all.

I think this is too smoky. I have two same engines and they both have the same amount of smoke. Any advice to reduce the amount of smoke? Many thanks.

like that even when warmed up ?

i'd be tempted to say take it to see or speed unrestricted water and give it a good blast at some high rpm for an hour then see if it still smokes afterwards.

That's river running for you - seems quite normal if you have had no high speed running! Head downstream for a few days and have a blast below the barrier (you're in Shepperton IIRC).

Yes its smokey .
Is this a new development ?

Perhaps compared to your KAD32s Martyn but I have seen lots of older Volvos smoke like this, particularly when sitting idle. As suggested by others, a good run might change help.

The smoking amount is the same as the time when I bought her at the Scotland coastal area 3 years ago. I drove her up to 23 knots for an afternoon at that time. But no difference was made. Then she moved to the river since that. The smoking amount has no changes at all. I just wondered if any way to make it a bit better as I am doing some improvement for her a little by little.

Will try some additive. Thanks.

Forget that snake oil.

How many hours on the engines ?
Primary and secondary filters changed /cleaned.
Air filters changed.

Do nothing until you have everything else sorted and have done a few proper cruising hours on the boat ?
We have boats in our club that can fill an entire marina with zero visibility smoke on start up.
The rest of the cruise particpants either leave earlier or simply wait for the smoke to clear.

30 mins on low idle achieves nothing .
30 mins, under load @ 2000 RPM with the boat firmly attached to the shore, might, but tends to be regarded as somewhat unsocial on the Thmaes.. :)

Both engines have 945 hours only. All filters changed last October when the engine was on 920 hours. So filters only used for 25 hours, still quite clean I guess.

Yes, can't run at high speed may be the problem. I'd stream down to London to a coastal area to have a spin. Don't know if I have time to do it before the lock closure. Will try to plan a trip.

Willing to change the injectors to have a try. Then found the injector quite expensive each. And looks like needing a special tool to remove. Have to do some more search to see what solution is better.

Check your area for a fuel injection specialist and take your injectors there. They will be cleaned tested and if new nozzles required these will be fitted. Cost will be a fraction of buying a set of new injectors complete. I think the removal tool is an impact puller. If this is the case then they are available on the web.
