How mush speed loss due to weed??

Believe me you ain't loosing 1200 revs cos of stuff on the hull. Also is it spot on 3000 you are getting if so that tells you something

Dennis

Just for reference, this is a post from me back in 2005 http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?60065-Slow-running&highlight=

The boat was a 2005 Bayliner 285 with a 350 MAG Mercruiser (so pretty close to the OPs set up).
I lost 1800RPM and a whole load of speed due to hull and leg fouling - and the boat was antifouled and only in the water on the southcoast for 10 weeks (compares to the OPs 3 months)

After a scrub even with 8 on board I got the revs etc back. It just goes to show how much influence the environment has on the boat performance

On a slightly different note out here in the Ageon at the moment I have noticed that the boats have next to no foul on them at all

Bit of an update chaps,

washed , scraped and painted the hull over the weekend. The green stuff was not that bad below the waterline and only a few hitch hikers.
None the less we scrubbed and painted the hull which needed doing regardless as the boat had never been anti fouled due to spending 7 years in Florida and two years on a dry stack in Wales.
We took it for another run .......

Exactly the same .

Have now taken possession of a mercruiser code reader and will give it a run again tomorrow....

Who was it that said there was something wrong with that engine. All that tosh about weed etc and who had the T shirt :)

To be fair, you are still wrong. You said it was not possible for fouling to be the cause. We were all saying it was possible. That is still true. Ok in this case it wasn't the cause, but it would have been foolish to have started problem solving the engine without cleaning the hull and I stand by that.

I have to admit that I was sceptical about the weed being the problem, however i did also think that I would try the anti foul first and retest before I went down the mechanical route just in case:rolleyes:

You aren't a remainer are you, still cracking on you were right all along even after the votes are in and counted and your side lost !! :).

Wow you are on a roll. Wrong again. I am a fully fledged Brexiter as can be seen from some of my other posts.

had a go with the code reader yesterday and I found a couple of faults in the freeze frame, however like a muppet I didn't right them down before i deleted them.
i know one was for low fuel when I ran out of fuel due to a fuel gauge error and one was high water temp when my thermostat stuck on leading to an overheat alarm.

does anybody have a list of mercruiser alarm codes that I could borrow or get a copy of???
