Imspired by dj43's thread "How Long"....I too have been thinking about the possibility of moving somehere more condusive to the kind of boating we all enjoy, weather wise. So my question would be how much does it cost to keep, for instance in my case, a 31 foot Sea Ray down in the med ? I have no specific area in mind, just and idea of cost would be good for a safe berth with power and water.
Currently berthed at the top of the Hamble River.

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses

Dave

There is no 'right' answer to this because berthing costs vary hugely. Just to give you some idea, I'm paying about €8000 pa for a 20m berth in SW Sardinia at the moment but I could easily pay €20000 pa for a 20m berth in Palma or SoF. So for a 10m berth, I'm guessing you could pay anywhere between €6000 and €12000 per annum depending on where it is located. The best thing you can do is pick a few cruising areas you fancy and then check out the berthing costs in that area. As for other costs such as insurance, fuel and maintenance etc broadly speaking they will be on a par with the UK but again may vary according to location. One thing you do have to bear in mind though is that you will probably be able to do less maintenance work yourself on a Med based boat simply because it just isn't as easy or quick to get to your boat to carry out maintenance jobs yourself so sneaking off early from work one day to service your gennie just isn't going to happen

I have a cranchi CSL 27 berthed in a small marina in Porto Pozzo in Sardinia. I pay 1,200 Euros for the season (end of May - September). Lovely guy Mario runs it. Used to be just a porta cabin but developers have just bought it and built a lovely new restaurant, outside bar and lounging area. I suspect it's going to go up in price and get a lot more popular which is a bit annoying. If you look on the map, it's at the end of Conca Verde, quick access to the best cruising grounds around the Costa Smerelda. I think it's a bargain, i should probably keep it to myself!! If you are interested, PM me, i've got some photos that I took when we were there last week, it's really a lovely setting.

Best bet really is to go down and actually speak to somebody down there in your choosen location.
Far more likely to take an interest in finding you a sensibly priced berth if you have bothered to fly down and talk face to face.

Offshore 57,

Have you considered Malta. We have 5 marinas across the island at the moment and another 2 which will start being built by the end of this year. Completion will be end of next year. Prices vary starting at approx €4000 p.a up to €10,000 per annum for a 32 footer. If you consider Malta contact me on pm we exchange contact numbers and I will do some home work for you by calling up the marinas and asking for quotations which I can forward to you directly. It's good to have a local helping you out. :-)

I,ve put this link in to show you a typical cost if you purchased a birth .
It's about to get a 5 y extension taking it to 2029 .la Napoule ( but you can use the search function for other areas )
http://www.mooringspot.com/mooring-...napoule-mandelieu-mandelieu-la-napoule?page=2
If you want to move -just rent it out , or sell it .
I had a 12M paid €75k sold it 9 y later for €100K so made €30 K in 9 y rarther than pay any rent .

Happy to hated on here for that folks :o

That's gone ,put towards a bigger Birth .But I could have walked away with it ?
I initially bought the € 75 K birth as an investment and rented it out ,way back in 2003-2004 it yielded 7-5 K _ 10%
Then I booted the tenant out when I got a MoBo .
The service charge for all the water and lecky for 8M will be € less than €1.5 K pa in La Nap .its proportionate to birth size .
You own shares in the mamagement Co that holds the master lease .
we currently have a 15M birth in the same Marina .-service charges less than € 3K - pa- remember that's Euros .
rent would be €12-15 K pa or more gross or more .
Hope this helps in your deliberations

I am paying 4,500 Euros per year for a 16M berth in the SoF. Including water and electricity.

I am just over 20M if you count the bow sprint. Fortunately the marina management does not.
